Go for gold!

This year we have not just seen the 2024 Summer Olympics we have seen the 2024 Summer McIntosh Olympics. This 17-year-old Canadian swimming sensation cleaned up in Paris winning 4 medals (3 gold and 1 silver). Every 4 years we witness the very best of the very best in sport and I for one am always amazed, entertained, and sometimes shocked by what these athletes are able to accomplish. Most have trained for the bulk of their lives engaging in a sport when very young, and there are others who take up a sport later in life and seem to have a natural talent. American cyclist Kristen Faulkner took up cycling 7 years ago after taking a beginner cycling class in NYC and was added to the USA cycling team 1 month before the games as a replacement – she won gold in the Paris Road Race – incredible! I love to hear the stories behind the athletes and probably the best one to come out of the summer Olympics is the story of the Hungarian Pistol shooter who came second in the team 10 metre air pistol event. The story goes that he took up shooting after a recent cantankerous divorce, he shocked and amazed the members of the shooting club and he was whisked off to Paris to represent his country. Sadly, it turns out to be false - it’s a shame when facts ruin a great story. It is also more evidence that you cannot always believe everything you read on the internet.

With a few days left for Olympic viewing, there is still much to be seen – climbing, golf, diving, wrestling, canoeing and so much more. So take a moment and launder your Olympic viewing loungewear and settle in for the last few days of awe-inspiring performances.

At Ruby Tuesday we don’t have athletes but we do have Canadian Designers. For gold we have Sarah Mulder – she specializes in gold hoops which we have all stocked up for you. The ones that make me smile are the Golden Hour hoop – big and beautiful. Lazy Maisie Creates by Helen Chan, is local to Whistler and close to our hearts - we love her Whistler-stamped bracelets (actually we love everything she makes)! Justine Brooks out of Squamish has been a staple in Ruby Tuesday for a long long time. Our favourites in her jewellery line are the puppy paw necklaces – adorable in silver, gold, and rose gold. Lastly, we have Mana Designs out of Pemberton by sawdust maker Nicole Beck - her wooden jewellery is a crowd favourite and the For the Love of Love earrings and necklaces top the list.
