Everyone has opinions, often based on their likes, dislikes where they live, how they live, their past, and their plan for the future. These are personal beliefs, not to be mistaken for facts (although having facts to back up your opinions is recommended). Forming personal opinions is not complex but forming an informed opinion can be something quite different. I think the most important aspect of forming an opinion is curiosity. We can often be stuck in our past, with belief structures influenced by our upbringing, our education system, friends, and family. I believe strongly in being exposed to the opposing point of view, or just a different point of view to get the whole picture. So ask questions, be curious, get to know the other points of view, and understand the differences. Being curious can change your life. Curious as to what’s happening at Ruby Tuesday? New Matt & Nat is what’s happening (another great Canadian company). Half of our new spring/summer stock has arrived and Wow! it’s a stunner. A highlight for me is the Malene handbag from their Theme Collection made with high-quality vegan materials. For other highlights this week are three other great Canadian designers: Mana Designs from Pemberton, BC is 100% Canadian Made using off-cuts of bamboo and walnut. Her designs are organic in nature and super lightweight. Treeline Collective out of Squamish, BC is a long-time brand at Ruby Tuesday and her Wisdom Collection is one of my favourites. Not only do I love trees but I love the message behind the collection “Trees teach us that there is power in stillness and remind us to stay grounded in moments of chaos”. Lastly, this week I have chosen Leah Alexandra, yet another Canadian Designer from Vancouver, BC. Her best-selling items are the Love Token necklaces. Available in round or square, these Franco-chic pendants are stamped with the French sentiment "qu'hier - que demain." It is a symbol of growing love which translates from the poem's French verse meaning "I love you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow." There's no better time to shop local and support Canadian-made products and businesses.
