Why we should celebrate birthdays

This week marked my mother's 90th birthday! We had 18 for dinner (which she cooked) and shared stories and poems about her and her legacy. It was such an honour to celebrate her, and it brought to mind how important it is to acknowledge our journey here on earth. Each year offers new opportunities and accomplishments, and I believe these should be celebrated – these are the stories that make up our lives. Of course, our lives are intertwined with other people’s lives, so each story includes so much more than just us. It’s so fun to recount stories from the past; stories that bring on laughter and bring back memories – it truly is an evening of entertainment. I know not everyone enjoys celebrating their years, but I encourage it – you are worth celebrating!

For this week’s highlights, I have chosen the Oval Spark locket from Vancouver’s Leah Alexandra. With the "spark” of a diamond, this stunning locket will house the photos of your celebrated loved ones. Also on the list today is the Dana backpack by Matt & Nat. I love the sleek, low-profile design of this easy-to-carry bag – great for everyday. New this week are the leather zip sneakers from Dragonfly – handmade in Spain, these sneakers will get you about town and beyond every day. Lastly, this week, I have chosen the pearl knotted bracelets by Simpl3. All handmade in Vancouver, these are an expression of the spring to come!
