Into the second week of
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it is clear this is not going to end
quickly and there will be many lives lost on both sides. There is no
indication that Russia will back down until Ukraine is back under the
Russian flag. The polarization of populations worldwide with far-right
groups making headlines regularly, not to mention that much of the
world’s population is ruled under dictatorships, begs the question –
how did we get here? I believe in freedom of speech and the right to
peaceful protests and I also believe in community and the fact that we
are all together as one. A government's role is to do what is best
for the whole country and not a select few and definitely not to invade
other countries and start a war. It should not be about power but
about leading. What is important, is safeguarding our democracy
for generations to come so we continue to have the freedoms we have
today.
In support of Ukraine, Ruby Tuesday will be donating a
percentage of sales up until the 18th to the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine
Humanitarian Crisis appeal. The Government of Canada will
match donations, up to $10 million, until March 18. Donation receipts
are provided.
