My summer vacation place is at a yurt; off the grid with solar, propane stove, composting toilet, and a canoe for transportation – you get the picture. This is not something I settled for; it is what I was aiming for, and I have exactly what I want. An added “bonus” you might call it, is a full appreciation of what I am allowed and not allowed on any given day. On sunny days, I live like a queen, but on rainy, windy, overcast days, some of my choices are limited. Without sun, my solar power only functions in a limited capacity and is directed to the fridge, so secondary appliances like my toaster oven are off limits. What’s the “bonus” you ask? It’s the concept of appreciating what you are able to have and what you are not able to have on any given day. Specifically, I am talking about toast, but it has greater ramifications for life – accepting that some things are just not available at any cost. Perhaps a spin on gratitude, but not for appreciating what you do have, but also appreciating what you don’t. For my highlights this week, I’ll start with new sweaters just in. Cozy, long cardigans – perfect for the cooler nights. We are waiting for our new fall boots, but in the interim, we have our summer sneakers on sale! Great zip-on zip-off leather sneakers by Chacal in four great colours. For jewellery items this week, I have chosen the Lazy Maisie Whistler cuff bracelet – great to have if you live here and great to wear if you don’t and want a beautiful reminder of our little bit of heaven. For another jewellery item, we have the Chakra meditation rings, the inner ring spins, providing calm and thoughtfulness.
