My father passed away a few weeks ago and although he had not been well for a while, it was sudden and quite a shock. To be honest, I fell apart. I realized I did not have the reserve I needed to hang on to, to get me through the initial few days. With all that has been going on in the world (Covid, the discovery of unmarked graves of First Nations children, the invasion of Ukraine to name a few) we are worn down. Our resilience is depleted to the point where everyday tasks are challenging and the ability to rise above the noise around us and see beauty is hindered. We are in challenging times and although we can be eternally hopeful that all this will soon be over, the reality is that life is hard. It is up to us to shore up our resilience, to bank it in a way so that when we need it, it is there for us to lean on. We need to find Joy in the everyday, to create laughter and levity to fill that tank of resilience.
I thought it appropriate for today to highlight a few of my favourite pieces
that symbolize what I feel we all need. The Resilience necklace by Treeline Collective
(this necklace reminds us to remain flexible to the ever-changing tides), the Hummingbird talisman by Pyrrha (symbol of
lightness and joy and a reminder to see goodness and beauty in everything), and
the Eagle wrap ring by Nancy Dawson of Silver
Eagles (a symbol of peace and friendship). I have thrown in the new sneakers by Taos, because they are super
comfortable and that in itself is a source of joy.
