When we look forward to Thanksgiving, I know we are all
looking forward to the dinner – the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes
and gravy, and of course the pies. It’s an eating extravaganza!
But beyond the food what we are really doing is celebrating community. There
is nothing quite like a table surrounded by your close family and/or
friends sharing a meal that may be created by one or many and raising a
glass. In the days gone past, it would be a toast to the harvest,
today it’s a moment to be thankful for all that we have – to be
grateful. Gratitude is not just about receiving, it’s also about giving
– like a river running through us. The river of all the good that
has come into our lives feeds the river that sets forth from our
headwaters into the world.
