As a general rule, I do not watch sports on TV – the exceptions might be cycling and ski racing. And although I do enjoy the occasional hockey game (especially Olympic hockey), baseball would be far down my list of sports to watch. I remember it being as exciting as watching ice freeze. I do vaguely remember the rules changing regarding baseball in the hopes of hurrying the game along… and it appears to have worked. I found myself following the wins and losses of the World Series, and surprise, surprise, there I was Friday night, sitting on a comfy couch watching not just highlights but the entirety of Game 6 – I was hooked! Saturday, we made ourselves at home at a local sports bar and surrounded ourselves with baseball. I felt the players and I became friends; I shared in their joys and sorrows as the game ticked through the innings and then sadly ended. I went through the whole enchilada of emotions in a tidy 3.5 hours (not to mention too many beers, which I paid for on Sunday). It’s amazing how we can surprise ourselves by trying something new, like jumping on an end-of-the-road bandwagon. Give it a try…
