Imagine being so good at something that the whole world
would stop and watch. And then imagine how much work it would take
to get there. Getting to the Olympics is no mean feat and all who get
there deserve to be supported and celebrated. Of course, all who do get
there will not get on the podium; there are crushing defeats that dash
the dreams of many a young athlete. Defeat is something these athletes
know all too well. In their career, they will have more defeats than
wins which begs the question 'Why do it in the first place'? I
believe that the sport that any one athlete takes up, is "in"
them – it becomes a part of them. So even after a crushing defeat they
can pick themselves up and carry on. It is a show of courage and
dedication like no other. As we sit on the sidelines (or the couch) and
cheer on these amazing individuals, let’s remember to celebrate their
journey to the Olympics and not just how they place. The next winter
Olympics will be held in Italy in 2026 and recently it was announced
that First Nations, in conjunction with Whistler and Vancouver, will be
making a bid for the 2030 Olympics. With our existing infrastructure
and having been through this before, I think this is a grand idea.
For your shopping pleasure, I have chosen a few of my favourite things
for this week's highlights. The Courage necklace from the Summit
collection (by Treeline Collective) where the mountain represents a
strong heart and reminds us not to give up; The Matt & Nat Fabi mini backpack, that could replace
the handbag you never thought you could do without and change your life
forever; Stacking rings because you can never
have too many and lastly the Bell ankle boot by Miz Mooz because
they are so cute and who doesn’t love a cute pair of boots!
