As I sit and write this, there is an out-of-control forest fire burning just 39km south of here in Brackendale (the northern neighbourhood of Squamish). Evacuation alerts are pending. It’s only the beginning of June. There are currently 85 wildfires burning in BC, a fraction of the 336 that have started since May 1st, and so far, 490,000 hectares have burned. This is an all-too-familiar story of summer in BC – the solution? We need more rain, and sadly, this is not something we can order on Amazon.
Communities have been threatened by forest fires for millennia, but now it seems to be happening with increasing ferocity and tenacity. Will this continue until it is all gone – until we are gone? I can’t help but wonder if this is Mother Nature's way of giving us the finger. Thankfully, there is rain in the forecast, and much of next week is expected to be wet. So fingers crossed they get this fire out and all others that come our way.
For today's highlights, I thought I would touch on some items that may help reduce the stress of Fire season. Top of mind is the Guardian Angel necklace by Leah Alexandra. Your guardian Angel is here for guidance and support, and reminds us that we are never alone.
