Unless you have been living under a rock, you are well
aware of the wildfires that have swept the country. Although
wildfires have been around for literally thousands of years, it is
relatively recent that they have become a staple in our summers. In
Whistler, we have been extremely fortunate that we have not had any
devastating fires and only have to deal with smoke. I cannot even
imagine what it would be like to have a wildfire bear down on our
community threatening our lives, our homes, businesses, livelihood, and
of course all of our stuff. How does one prepare for this? Of
course, there are dozens of websites that will spell out how to prepare
for evacuation; what to have at the ready, where to set up rendezvous
spots for family members, how to prepare your home, etc. What I am
stuck on is the emotional side of this devastation. How does one
reconcile the incredible loss? Or even the possibility of loss? I
don’t think this is something you can prepare for or even fathom. My
heart breaks for those affected by these fires and I hope for a
brighter, wetter, smoke-free future.
Starting in 2021, United Way BC has been working with communities and
individuals impacted by the BC Wildfires in their recovery

Ruby Tuesday will
be donating 10% of all on-line sales between Aug 24th and
31st to the United Way BC.
