These last two weeks have been full of highs and lows, successes and failures, gains and losses. For a very small population of the world, everything they have been working towards for much of their lives has come to an end. Some have now been crowned “the best in the world”, an incredible accomplishment. Of course, there is a flip side to this, which is that not everyone wins. There are many more losses than wins at the Olympic games and not just losses, but crushing defeats. Probably the most notable was Ilia Malinin (the Quad God), who basically had a bad day. This, however, is the nature of competition... and I repeat, not everyone can win. These losses, however, are the building blocks of future successes; there is no win without loss. There is a certain amount of grit, endurance, and determination needed to make it to the games, and all of these competitors have had their share of highs and lows during their athletic careers. So let’s celebrate the losses and support our athletes so they can build back stronger, learn from their losses, and train to compete another day.
